Electronic Fabric Quartz Materials
Electronic fabric quartz materials are a high-end upgrade of electronic-grade glass fiber cloth upstream of printed circuit boards (PCBs). They mainly refer to quartz fibers and fabrics made from high-purity silicon dioxide through the complete "high-purity quartz sand — quartz rod — quartz fiber" chain. Compared with conventional E-glass electronic fabric, quartz electronic fabric features extremely low dielectric constant (Dk) and dielectric loss (Df), significantly reducing delay and energy loss in high-frequency signal transmission. It is an indispensable core reinforcement material for high-frequency, high-speed copper-clad laminates used in 5G communications, AI servers, high-end chip packaging, satellite communications and radar electronic warfare.
High-purity quartz sand is the source and quality foundation of electronic fabric quartz materials. The purity of quartz fiber depends directly on the purity of the raw sand. Metal impurities such as iron, sodium, potassium and lithium introduce dielectric loss and reduce insulation performance during high-temperature drawing and long-term use. Therefore, quartz sand for electronic fabric generally requires SiO₂ purity above 99.95%, with total key impurities controlled at ppm level, stable particle size distribution and extremely low levels of gas- and liquid-bearing inclusions, laying a pure foundation for subsequent melting and drawing.
Quartz rods are the key intermediate form in the transition from high-purity quartz sand to quartz fiber. High-purity quartz sand is melted at high temperature and precisely drawn into quartz rods. The purity uniformity, bubble content, hydroxyl level and dimensional precision of the rods directly determine the stability of subsequent drawing and the quality of the fiber. Premium quartz rods must be free of internal bubbles and particles, with precise diameter tolerances, ensuring stable melting, continuous drawing without breakage or fluctuation.
Quartz fiber is the final form of electronic fabric quartz materials and the highest-value segment. Using high-purity quartz rods as raw material, continuous quartz fibers several to more than ten micrometers in diameter are produced by high-temperature melting and drawing, then processed through unwinding, twisting, warping and weaving into quartz electronic fabric. Quartz fiber combines high modulus, low expansion, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and ultra-low dielectric loss. The resulting electronic fabric can withstand the high-temperature and high-pressure conditions of PCB lamination while providing copper-clad laminates with excellent signal integrity, dimensional stability and long-term reliability. It is the "skeleton" material ensuring low-loss transmission of high-frequency, high-speed signals.
Overall, the three-level material chain of "sand — rod — fiber" is progressive and interconnected, with purity assured and performance improved at each level. Electronic fabric quartz materials involve high technical barriers and long qualification cycles, and the high-end market has long been monopolized by foreign manufacturers. Building on more than ten years of high-purity quartz sand production, ESSN is extending into quartz rods and quartz fibers, committed to building an independent, controllable electronic fabric quartz materials value chain and contributing to filling the domestic gap in high-end electronic materials and supporting the development of the next-generation information technology industry.
